Please read the following verification requirement for .SG domain registration

What is VerifiedID@SG? VerifiedID@SG is a system that ensures people who own '.sg' domain names provide accurate information about themselves. This helps prevent fake information and builds trust among users of '.sg' websites.

How does it work? When you register a new '.sg' domain name since May 2, 2013, you need to verify your identity using Singpass/Corppass, which are online authentication methods in Singapore. You do this by logging in with your Singpass or Corppass, and then clicking a "Verify Identity" button. You have 21 days to do this after registering, or else your domain name will be suspended.

Who does it apply to? This scheme applies to domain names registered after May 2, 2013. For older domain names, verification is required only when there's a change in the registrant's information. If there are doubts about a domain's authenticity, it might be subject to verification.

Why wasn't it applied to older domain names? Implementing it for older domain names would be inconvenient, so it's only required if there are changes in the registrant's information. However, if there are doubts, older domain names might also undergo verification.

Why do you ask administrative contacts to verify, not the registrant? Some registrants are foreign organizations, and it's not easy for them to verify their identity online. The administrative contact, usually in Singapore, can do this more conveniently using Singpass/Corppass.

Can registrants with Singpass or Corppass verify themselves? Yes, they can, but they should act as the administrative contact since the system is designed that way for simplicity.

What's the responsibility of an administrative contact? They need to make sure the registrant's identity is accurate. If a domain name is used for bad stuff, and the identity is fake, they might have to help with investigations.

Will they be held accountable if the registrant's info is wrong? No, as long as they've done their best to check the accuracy. But if they provide false info, they might be barred from handling new '.sg' domain names.

Will they be held accountable for registrant's wrongdoing? No, the registrants are responsible for how they use their domain names.

Why was VerifiedID@SG implemented? It prevents identity theft and fake info in domain registrations, which can harm the internet community. It also makes the verification process faster and more convenient.

What do you need to do to register a new '.sg' domain? Provide details of an individual-type administrative contact with a valid Singpass ID or an organization-type administrative contact with a valid Unique Entity Number (UEN). The administrative contact must verify the identity within 21 days of registration.

How long does verification take? It should be quick, less than 5 minutes. After the first verification, it gets even faster for future registrations.

What happens if verification isn't done? The domain name will be suspended, meaning the website and emails won't work until it's verified. You can extend the verification due date once for 7 days.

What if you forget your Singpass password? You can reset it on the Singpass website. If you can't do it in time for verification, you can appoint someone else as the administrative contact.

Who can get a Singpass account? Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and certain work pass holders.

Who can get a Corppass account? Local organizations with a Unique Entity Number (UEN).

Can you use someone without these accounts as an administrative contact? In most cases, no. However, there are exceptions, like when a local organization manages many '.sg' domain names.

How do you apply for an SGNICID (an exception)? You can apply under specific circumstances. SGNIC will issue it after verifying your identity.

What if you change the registrant or administrative contact? Whenever there's a change in identity or contact info of the registrant or admin contact, you must perform verification again. If not, you can't renew the domain.

What's a 'change of identity'? It happens when the identification number (like UEN or NRIC) changes.

What's a 'change of contact information'? It's when the registrant's address, postal code, phone number, fax, or email changes.

How do you know if you need to verify your domain? You can check the domain's status through a WHOIS search. If it's "VerifiedID@SG-OK," it's verified. If it's "VerifiedID@SG-Pending," it's waiting for verification.

Do you need to verify when renewing a domain? No, as long as nothing has changed in the identity or contact info.

How is personal info protected? Only the administrative contact's name is shown in public WHOIS. Other details are kept private.

Can you stop receiving reminders? Yes, you can stop daily reminders through the VerifiedID@SG portal if you're not the administrative contact or if you don't want to receive them.
