What security measures can I take to protect my cPanel hosting account? Print

If your website is compromised or your Cpanel password is cracked, your info may be stolen and your site may get shutdown by our server admins.

It is suggested that you should change your password every few month and never use easy to guess/remember password to secure your site.

P@ssw0rd123 is not a secure password nor is Nimda123. These are common passwords use by hackers doing dictionary style attack.

Our suggestion for a password is it should be 14-18 characters long consist of numbers and alphabets and at least 1 special character.

You may also password protect admin folder via directory privacy option in cPanel.

If you have a fixed IP address from your ISP, you can also restrict access to files or folders by editing your .htaccess file inside your public_html folder and allowing only your IP to access.

Example below, where post.php is file to restrict and IP 192.168.10.10 is file to restrict. (192.168.10.10 is provided as an example, it is a private IP address and it allows nothing from WAN side. You should change it and put your ISP provided IP address after require ip)

<Files "post.php">
Require all denied
Require ip 192.168.10.10
</Files>
